Can I Get a Witness

“Can I get a witness”, this is not just a religious phrase. The Bible talks about Adam as being the son of God.  God created Adam from the dust of the earth and breathed into him nostrils and he became a living soul. In Luke 3: 23-38 the Bible says, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Mattathias… Cainan, which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God”. One important fact is that Adam was the son of God and now God can make anyone become his child.

Jesus in the lineage is begotten by God. The Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and she gave birth to Jesus. When he was baptized by John the Baptist, God the Father gave a witness. In Luke 3: 21-22 “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased”. The voice from heaven is the voice of God the Father bearing witness of who Jesus really is.

After the baptism, Jesus went into the desert and fasted for forty days. When he was hungry the devil came to tempt him. The temptation was against the witness of the voice from heaven that God gave during the baptism. Satan said to Jesus that if he was the son of God then should turn stones into bread to prove it.  The first Adam and the second Adam (Jesus) were both sons of God, but God the Father said that he was well pleased with Jesus. The Bible talks about the first Adam as being a living soul and the second Adam as a life giving Spirit. Jesus Christ is the life giving Spirit. This is the Spirit that cries to God Abba Father. Now remember that sons are not like servants they abide in the house of their father forever according to what Christ teaches .

One day Jesus asked the disciple if they knew who he was and Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the son of God.” During the crucifixion the when the centurion observed the way Jesus handled himself and how he died: he had nothing else to say except saying that Jesus was truly the son of God. We all need this witness in our hearts because it is a  witness that says that Jesus is the son of God. Without this witness we remain lost in sin and we easily can remain a people without God.

Jesus is looking for that witness in your heart. In Acts 1:8 he says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” The disciples of Jesus should have a greater witness that proves Jesus Christ is who he claims to be, the son of the living God. Do you have a witness in your heart?
