The Father’s Promise

When Jesus arose he met with the disciples who confirmed that he was truly alive. He actually appeared to the disciples on different occasions for forty days before he ascended to the Father in heaven. On one occasion when Jesus met with the disciples he told them that he was sending them the promise of the Father which is the Holy Spirit. He wanted to make sure that they understood that he was sending them someone who would help them become effective at the task of reaching the human heart.

Jesus wanted the disciples to be equipped for the spiritual task that was ahead. The disciples had to be equipped for the mission. We are also supposed to be equipped for the same mission. They needed to be equipped the same way Jesus Christ was equipped when the Father sent him. We are supposed to be equipped the same way that is why Jesus said to the disciples that they should wait for the promise of the Father.

Now before Jesus ascended to the Father he reminded the disciples to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit. After spending some time with the disciples for forty days, Jesus finally ascended to the Father. Ten days after he ascended to the Father, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the one hundred and twenty disciples who were waiting for the promise in the Upper Room. When this happened the disciples were changed from the inside. Now, when the disciples received the promise of the Father, the miracle working power was evident in their ministry. Thousands of people got saved on that day of Pentecost alone after Peter preached about Jesus Christ.

A few days later Peter and John were going to pray in the Temple according to Acts chapter three. When they noticed that they had no money to give as arms to the disabled man who sat at Gate called Beautiful, they instead commanded him to get up and walk. After pulling him by the hand his legs gained strength and he began to walk. These disciples were now witnesses for Jesus because the Holy Spirit was with them. In Mark 16: 20 the Bible declares, “And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen” (KJV). The disciples now had power to convince the world that Jesus was the Son of God. They proved it to the people that Jesus was alive and well.

The Holy Spirit gives power to work miracles and has gifts that he manifests to build up his Church. In 1 Corinthians 12: 4 the Bible says, “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit” (KJV). This means that the Holy Spirit manifests different gifts. These gifts do not belong to a human being. These are manifestations of the same Spirit of God to help build the church. When believers gather together the Holy Spirit manifests these gifts and those with spiritual needs receive the help they need. If someone needs healing, the Holy Spirit manifests the gift of healing. When someone needs salvation then the Holy Spirit would lead such a one to Jesus Christ. No one can come to God without the help of the Holy Spirit.
