When you develop a strong prayer life, it creates a strong support system the world has ever known. As soon as you start facing opposition in unexpected ways in your life you will always have a way out. Your connection with God through Jesus is the strongest and most vital connection for your spiritual survival. It is important for you to survive any spiritual ambush so that you can accomplish the mission God has for you. You can only take care of certain things that you face by prayer. This is what David the son of Jesse did according to what we see recorded in the first book of Samuel.
One day in the life of David the Amalekites made an invasion in Ziklag and on that day David was out of town and the Amalekites took his family captive. When he came back into town he found the city on fire and his people taken captive. This made him to be distressed. He wept for his family and the men he was with also wept for their families until they had no more strength left to continue weeping.
Surprisingly enough the men he was with began planning to stone him to death. These men seemed to have lost their mind. This can make you wonder how the idea of stoning David could have solved this problem. In the midst of that disturbing circumstance David came up with an excellent response. He cheered himself up and then consulted with God. In 1 Samuel 30:6 the Bible says, “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God” (KJV). In this situation David encouraged himself in the Lord.
David did not only encourage himself in the Lord, he also consulted God on this terrible situation. He asked for the Ephod from the priests so as to inquire of the Lord about the situation he was going through. In 1 Samuel 30:8 the Bible declares, “And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all”(KJV). Pray to God in whatever circumstance that you are facing. Call unto him and he will answer your call.
David prayed to God. He asked for the Lord’s guidance and the Lord guided him. David ended up recovering everything he had lost in the invasion. When you are guided by God you are bound for success. What your enemy has taken from you will eventually be recovered.
