Giving and Receiving – Part 1

Wherever there is love people give. Giving is an expression of affection toward others. This is something that started with God himself. In John 3:16 the Bible says,”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (KJV). God gave us Jesus Christ because he loves us. Jesus is the most precious gift to the world. Why? It is all because without him we are, but sinners lost for eternity.

When God created man, he was without sin. Man enjoyed fellowship with his creator, but when he sinned against God sin then entered the world. Sin is very destructive no matter how innocent some of it might appear. Sin brought sickness, suffering and death in this world. Everyone on earth is under the control of sin unless he has surrendered to Jesus Christ.

We are all affected because in Romans 3:12 the Bible in reference to Jews or Gentiles says, “They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one” (KJV). This means everyone on the face of the earth has sinned and now operates under the control of sin. People keep sinning because they are under that power of sin. The only one who is powerful enough to overcome the power of sin is Jesus Christ. Jesus is not subject to the power of sin and due to this he has become the answer to our sinful human condition.

In Romans 6:23 the Scripture says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (KJV). Since we have all sinned, we then deserve to die. Payment for sin is death, but God has made a way out for us. God has made a way for all of us by providing us with forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. This is the reason why Jesus is a gift to us.

Through Jesus Christ we can now live forever and ever. However, we have to receive that gift of God. In John 1:12 the Bible says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (KJV). Children of God have eternal life because they have received Jesus in their hearts. If Jesus is in your heart it means you have eternal life.
