The love of Christ is an essential fact in life. What is love? Well, love is the affection someone may have for another person. This is what makes people care about each other. Love is the cornerstone of marriage and it is the only cornerstone for any relationships.
A believer’s relationship with Christ is founded on love. In John 3:16 the Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (KJV). Those with everlasting life because of what Christ has done are people who have responded to the love of God. Actually, people obey the Word of God because they love God. If we love Christ, we will obey him. This means that love is what makes us do the will of God.
In Colossians 3:19 the Word of God says, “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them” (KJV). It is God’s will to love a wife even when there might be things that can easily cause bitterness. In fact husbands must love their wives the way Christ loves the church. It is the will of God.
Since Christ loves the church so much he had to give away something of value. There is nothing of greater value outside Christ therefore he had to give himself. In Ephesians 5:25 the Bible says, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it (KJV). Where there is love, giving is always present and Christ is the best example about what love can do. We can all give ourselves to those we love and cherish because we care about them.
All people should know this love and must be grounded in it. How can that be done? Well, in Ephesians 3:17 the Bible says, “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love” (KJV). This is the way believers in Christ are able to comprehend the depth, width and height of the love of Christ. First of all, Christ must dwell in their hearts by faith in order to be grounded in love.
The love of Christ has much higher value than knowledge. As a matter of fact, the love of Christ is what gets us to be filled with all the fullness of God. Whatever you do, be filled with the love of Christ so that you can be filled with the fullness of God.
