Led by the Spirit

Every believer in Christ is expected to have the experience of being led by the Spirit. Being led by the Spirit of God is really a provision for doing the will of God. It is important that we should be led by the Spirit of God because without it we can easily function outside the will of God.

Jesus was led by the Spirit of God that is why he was in the will of God. In Matthew 4:1 the Bible says, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil” (KJV). It is interesting to note that the Spirit can lead someone into what may seemingly be a strange situation, but really mapped out by God. In this case Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

This is something most of us would rule out as being from God. The fact is that from the beginning of the wilderness experience to the end Jesus had to be led so as to remain securely established in the will God. This is the reason why we all need to be led by the Spirit of God. The experience really establishes us in the will of God.

In John chapter one verse fourteen the Bible explains a little more about Jesus by saying that he was full of “grace and truth”. Jesus is the Son of God therefore he had to be led by the Spirit of God. As children of God we are supposed to be led by the Spirit of God. There are some people who claim to be children of God, but very much committed to ideas and beliefs that are based in a fallacy they heard from a friend. Such people are living within the framework mapped out for them by a friend’s way of thinking and not by the word of God. This causes their spiritual vision to be distorted.

In Romans 8:14 the Bible says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (KJV). Sons of God are under grace and not under the law. The Spirit of God leads from within and not from without. We do not have to be controlled by an external mechanism of rules known as the law for us to be right before God. We have to be right by doing what God says we should do from within us. The rules are supposed to be etched in our hearts because it is part of the mechanism that helps us do what God wants us to do.

This is something that proceeds from within you as a child of God. When it happens people who look at you will see a new person, all because you follow the directions of the Spirit of God. In Galatians 5:18 the Bible says, “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law” (KJV). We should be led by the Spirit of God so as to be established in his will because we are not under the law, but under grace.
