The Best Choice in Life

Jesus is still calling people today. The best choice is to follow him. Before Jesus said to the disciples “Go ye therefore…”, he said “Follow me”. Before he said to the disciples “As my father sent me, so send I you”, he also said “Follow me and I make you fishers of men”.

Jesus calls and makes us into what he wants us to be. We have to learn from him first before we can preach or teach other people. In Mark 3:14 the Bible says, “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach” (KJV). Basically, things are arranged in such a way that we should first come to Jesus, learn from him and then go out and preach what we have learnt. Our experience with Jesus has direct impact on what we share with other people.

We really have to spend time with Jesus before we can personally have something of value to share. Following Jesus means sitting at his feet so as to learn from him. In following Jesus we get prepared to do what needs to be done in the work God has cut out for us and that is when we learn from God. This is what really prepares us for service in Christ.

One day when Martha was in the kitchen preparing meals, her sister Mary was seated at the feet of Jesus. She made a choice to seat and learn from Jesus, but Martha chose to be in the kitchen cooking. Martha did not understand why Mary was seated there with Jesus when she could have been helping in the kitchen. Martha finally had to ask Jesus to let her come and help in the kitchen. Surprisingly, the Lord’s response was not what Martha expected.

In Luke 10:42 Jesus says to Martha, “But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (KJV). Sitting at the feet of Jesus is one of the most important things in life. That means having a prayer life that is really a source of true communion with God. Today Jesus is not present with us physically, but prayer makes this communion possible. It is like Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus. What we receive from Jesus as we seat at his feet is food for eternity. Sitting at his feet is the best choice ever.

Have you chosen to seat at the feet of Jesus today? Have you prayed and read the Bible?Try it and you will be amazed as to how much you can learn as a child of God.
