The Key to Understanding Spiritual Things

Spiritual things are difficult to understand when one does not have a real connection with God. There must be a spiritual connection between you and God. That connection can only come about by having an experience with him. That first and foremost experience is the new birth experience without which no one can understand the things of God.

One day when Jesus Christ was about to wash the disciples feet, Peter refused to have his feet washed. Jesus told him that if his feet were not going to be washed he was not going to have any part with him. When Peter finally accepted to have his feet washed that is when Jesus pointed out to him that after being washed he would know something. The meaning behind the actions is what really matters in life and by washing the disciples feet Jesus was introducing a way of knowing the things of God. Some things will never make sense until someone has had some experience.

In john 13:7 the Bible says,“Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter” (KJV). After the washing of his feet that is when Peter was able to know something Jesus was putting cross to the disciples. The washing of the feet provided an opportunity for Peter to know things he would not have been able to know if Christ had not washed his feet. The key to knowing is that experience with Christ because it unlocks understanding.

The new birth experience offers that opportunity for the heart to be washed from sin and in that way it unlocks the understanding of who God is. This is the key to understanding spiritual things. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 the Bible declares,”But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (KJV). Spiritual things do not make sense to anyone who is not born of God. They only make sense to those who are saved because they have the mind of Christ.

Do you have the mind of Christ?
