The healing that took place at the sheep market pool as recorded in John chapter five from verse one to nine gives us a glimpse into what God has in store for all of us. At that sheep market pool called Bethesda a multitude of sick people was gathered hoping to be healed. When an angel troubled the water in the pool those who were first to jump in got healed.
Imagine a paralyzed man hoping to jump in first. It is almost impossible and worse, such a man could even end up drowning in the pool if he jumped in at the wrong time. What the sick at the pool encountered was difficult to deal with and it is similar to what is happening to a lot of other people in the world today.
In this world a lot of people are silently fighting secret battles that only God can help them win. The first nine verses in John chapter five draws our attention to how Jesus Christ helped a man to fight and win his long battle over paralysis. What moved Jesus should also move us so that we can do what he did for people in need. Every believer should be sensitive to people’s needs. One of the needs we can not forget about is that people need to be saved from sin. It is our job to intercede for people in prayer and share the gospel with them so that they can be saved or healed.
When Jesus saw a paralyzed man at that pool, he just simply asked him a question. This reminds us that Jesus respected the will of this man and he still does not impose himself on any one today. In John 5:6 the Bible says, “When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole” (KJV). Jesus has the power to heal, but people must be willing to receive the healing. This is the reason why Jesus prompted this man’s willingness to receive what he needed by asking him a question.
Well, after that short assessment, Jesus knew for sure that this man was ready for his healing. All what Jesus did was to instruct this paralyzed man to get up and walk. There is power in what Jesus says and that is proven by what happened after he gave the instruction to this man. In John 5:8 we are told, “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk” (KJV). If you are sick right now and your answer is yes, “I want to be healed”, healing is your portion.
You do not have to explain a lot of things to Jesus like what this man did. All you need to do is to obey what he instructs you to do and you will be healed. Jesus wants you to obey what is written in the Bible about your healing because that is exactly what is from his mouth. God’s word is the source for your healing, just obey it and you will be healed.
