Becoming a Christian is a crossover experience. This experience allows for the manifestation of the true likeness of God and it begins when someone turns away from sin.
When John the baptist was preaching the message of repentance, he was calling people from sin. John’s message of repentance demanded for fruit, which was and is still proof for true change in life. His message of repentance was attesting to the fact that man has truly been going in the wrong direction and now he needs change in order to crossover into what God has in store for him.
However, when someone has had the new birth experience he becomes a new creation. The Bible says that no man can see God and live therefore death must occur before life can manifest. The most effective witness really comes out of the death and resurrection experience of Jesus Christ and it is his life that has to manifest and not ours. This means that one has to die to self so that the life of God can be seen.
It is now possible to see God in those who believes in Jesus Christ. In John 14:9 Jesus says, “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father…” (ASV). The work that Jesus did at the cross has made it possible for us to see God, but we first have to die and then be resurrected. As a believer when people look at you, they should be able to see the one who is alive in you because of what Christ has done. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 the Bible says, “Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new” (ASV). When someone has had the crossover experience, he manifests the life of Christ so that God can be seen.
One day when some of the Greeks who went to worship at the temple wanted to see Jesus, they came to Philip and inquired if they could see him. In John 12:21 the Bible says,”these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus” (ASV). That day Philip had a task of directing people to Jesus. Today we still have the same task which is now accomplished through the revelation of who Jesus Christ is. The revelation of Jesus is what leads to the true manifestation of God.
In John 5:24 Jesus says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life” (ASV). Passing from death to life is the true crossover experience only found in Jesus Christ. In this experience one has to die to self as he surrenders his will to God. This is what helps to show forth the new life that transforms people.
Now, we all need to have that crossover experience and it is possible after we have asked Jesus Christ to come into our hearts. This means asking for forgiveness from God because without Christ we are all lost without God or purpose. When we settle that issue with God we find forgiveness. This is how new life in Christ begins and that is what we call the crossover experience
