Nature is one true dimension of identity in life that reflects the true characteristics of any living thing. This is the reason why claiming to be someone else does not really mean you are what you claim. There is a source of natural characteristics that reflect who you are and that is what no man can change.
Now, no one can change his own internal make up that reflect his true natural identity. A lion can not be a dog and a horse can not be a monkey. These animals differ in their internal make up and that is why they reflect different characteristics. The same applies to man. Man has a sinful nature which is an internal make up that reflects characteristics of sin. In order to change, man has to have a new nature within him. Since nothing is impossible with God, he is the only one who can change that internal make up.
In 2 Peter 1:4 the Bible says, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (KJV). Through God’s word we become partakers of his divine nature. In other words, the promises in the word of God make this possible.
The change that occurs affects every area of life and that includes the way we speak and behave. It basically causes change in one’s whole life. This is initiated by the new birth experience and that is what people need in order to be partakers of God’s divine nature. In 1 John 3:9 the Bible says, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (KJV). If someone claims that he is saved, but does not reflect the characteristics of God then he is probably not saved.
It is much better to be sure you are saved than to live a lie and die in sin. Reflecting God’s divine nature is the true evidence that one belongs to God. It is not enough to just make a claim, there must be evidence that you are truly a child of God. The seed of God must be in you and when this happens you then stop living in sin.
Let us Pray
If you are not sure you are saved then pray this prayer.
Say, LORD God almighty, I know am a sinner who is in need of you. I want to truly be a partaker of your divine nature. I want to be born of your Spirit so that your seed can remain inside me. Oh LORD change me, I believe nothing is impossible with you. Lord Jesus, come into my heart. You have promised that you would not cast out people like me. Thank you for coming into my heart. I believe you have come into my heart and now I am a child of God. The seed of God is now inside me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
