Pre-mature Death (Part 1)

When people die they just do not stop existing. Every person is appointed to die once before he can be judged by God. This is serious because Jesus Christ came in the flesh and had to die just like every man has to die. After his death and resurrection he stood before God. Standing before God at the Mercy Seat meant death or life, but with his blood which paid for our salvation it meant life.

Now, when Jesus came, he came with a purpose and that purpose was to die for our sins so that we can be saved. Without Jesus, man remains guilty if he has to stand before God and be judged. The death and resurrection of Jesus has now made it possible for man to come before God and have his sins forgiven.

In Hebrews 9: 27 the Bible says, “Everyone must die once, and after that be judged by God” (‭GNB). Jesus had to appear before God as our High Priest after his death and resurrection to present his blood before God the Father. If the blood was not accepted, then man would have remained guilty and God’s wrath would have come upon us because of sin.

The good news is that God the Father accepted the blood of Jesus at the Mercy Seat in heaven. You and I can now come before God and ask for forgiveness and have our sins washed away. It is appointed for us to die once after that the judgment, but through Christ we are not guilty. In Christ we find forgiveness therefore in God’s court room we plead “not guilty”.

Jesus came on earth for a reason and that is what really governed what he accomplished. He was supposed to die for us and death was supposed to be his major assignment and it had to be accomplished at the right time. Given the seriousness of this matter Jesus prayed about it with a strong expression of emotions. He cried out to God. In Hebrews 5:7 the Bible refers to Jesus and says, “In his life on earth Jesus made his prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, who could save him from death. Because he was humble and devoted, God heard him” (‭GNB). God heard from heaven and Jesus was saved from pre mature death.

Now, pre mature death does not mean dying at a young age. It means dying before God’s assignment is accomplished. At thirty three years old Jesus had accomplished everything he needed to accomplish for us to be saved. Going by the chronological order of things in life to judge whether someone’s death is premature can be misleading.

At the begining of his ministry religious people attempted to kill Jesus before his appointed time. This happened just after he ministered to them. In Luke 4: 29-30 the Bible says,”They rose up, dragged Jesus out of the town, and took him to the top of the hill on which their town was built. They meant to throw him over the cliff, but he walked through the middle of the crowd and went his way” (‭GNB). If Jesus had to die at that time, it would have been a premature death.
