The new birth experience is what begins our Christian life. It brings with it a new life and this life is not what this world is familiar with. This life is what the Bible calls the light of men.
The light of men is really Jesus Christ himself. That is the reason why the Bible talks about him as being the light of men. In John 1: 4 the Bible in reference to Jesus says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (KJV). Naturally light catches the attention of any eye. In spiritual context, the light of men who is Jesus Christ catches the attention of the inner eye.
Jesus is the true light of men. Without this light we can all for sure think that we are doing well, when we are actually not. When Jesus comes into our heart he begins to show us who we really are. We see ourselves as sinful as we really are and that is what initiates change in life.
When we see our sinful condition, we call for a savior and it so happens that Jesus Christ who paid the price for our sins is that same compassionate savior we have for all eternity. He willingly reaches out and touches us. By touching us we mean, he forgives us and delivers us from the grip of sin that has kept every person born in this world in bondage. If we can not see our sinful condition it means we have not really seen this light of men.
In John 9:41 we are told “Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth” (KJV). Any one who claims he does not need Jesus to be saved from sin is still in darkness. He is like a blind man, unless he is healed he remains in darkness.
In all this, what we need to remember is that humility is key to change in anyone’s life. We can let Jesus be that light of men in our lives by doing his will and that is how we would end up being changed. The light of men brings true change in life.
