Believers are set apart for good works in Christ. What are good works? Well, Good works are acts of mercy, love or compassion done by the Holy Spirit through anyone who believes in Jesus Christ. It was by the same Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ himself went about doing good and healing those who were oppressed by the devil. God works through believers in Christ.
It is misleading to think that our good works will earn us a place in heaven someday. Good works cannot save anyone. People get saved when they believe in Jesus Christ. What you do after you are saved is really an expression of God’s love and it is the proof of your faith in God.
In James 2:26 the Bible says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also (KJV). Faith has to have works otherwise it is not made into perfect faith. No one can hope for something and not act in line with what he hopes for. James tells us that even the devil believes that there is one God, but just trembles and no good work comes out of him.
As a matter of fact what does the devil do? The devil also believes, but then trembles. In James 2:19 the Bible says, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble” (KJV). The devil also believes just like us, but after that he trembles or shudders, which means he shakes violently with fear.
It is different for people who believe in Jesus Christ because they are God’s workmanship meant for good works. Let us see what the Bible says. In Ephesians 2:10 the Bible says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (KJV). Good works are exclusively meant only for those who are in Christ. Are you in Christ? If you are, then you are a new creation through Christ for good works.
