Good Works in Christ – Part 2

On the day after Jesus had fed thousands of people by multiplying bread and fish, some people got interested in him. Now these people seriously went out looking for Jesus until they found him. There was nothing wrong about seeking Jesus, but one thing for sure is that their motives were wrong.

When they found him they began to talk to him about their new found desire to do the works of God, but Jesus saw through all that. In John 6:28 the Bible says,” Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” (KJV). Jesus gave them just one quick look and began to show them that they needed more than temporary solutions to life. He knew they just wanted bread to eat again just like what happened the day before. In all this, the question is; what do you really want out of this life?

In a clever way, those people tried to convince Jesus that they were up to doing what God wants, but Jesus knew exactly what was in their hearts. He knew their motives. In John 6:29 the Bible says, “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent” (KJV). Jesus was saying that if you want to do the work of God you must first have faith. Believing in Jesus really puts God first.

Now, this was an interesting group of people. What makes them interesting is that they still insisted that Jesus should perform another miracle even after seeing and eating miracle bread at his meeting. In John 6:30 the Bible says, “They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?” KJV). They were trying to hand him a blank check so that he could sign it for them to fulfill their own desires. After seeing what happened the day before they should have just believed and not ask for another miracle.

This sounds more like our prayers items which usually focus on what we want and not what God wants. We must always pray according to the will of God. This is the reason why the Holy Spirit helps us to pray. We really do not know how to pray as we aught to. God knows we need material things, but we must seek God first. When you have material things without Jesus you have nothing. When you have Jesus you have everything you need.

Now, on that day Jesus did not feed them with bread because he wanted to feed them with spiritual bread. He knew that people can ask amiss, but he still wants to give solution in their circumstances. In this case Jesus was intent at  giving them real bread to quicken them for eternity and that is what he is still doing for people today. When you receive Jesus in your heart you become a new creation for good works.

Are you ready to do the works of God? First and foremost believe in Jesus Christ. You have to be in Christ to be ordained for good works in Christ.
