Something similar to what happened to Ahaziah happened to another king by the name of Asa. Asa was king in Judah and he also died because he sinned against God by not putting him first. God does not show favoritism. Anyone who repents will be forgiven by God. What does the Bible say about Asa? In 2 Chronicles 16:12 the Bible says, “And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians” (KJV). Asa did not seek God. He put physician above God.
It is not wrong to seek medical treatment, but it must be done with the understanding that it is the way we see God healing us. God placed the immune system in our bodies to help us get heal when we are sick. He is the one who has allowed physicians to use wisdom to expedite healing for our sick bodies. However, in this process God wants us to acknowledge him as being first.
Now, let us contrast the experiences of King Ahaziah and Asa with that of King Hezekiah. In Isaiah 38:1-2 the Bible says, “In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord” (KJV). Hezekiah was humble enough to seek God when he realized he was going to die. He was desperate for healing and he knew God could do something about his situation.
What happened to Hezekiah? Well since he humbled himself and sought God in prayer, he got healed. In Isaiah 38:4-5 the Bibles says, “Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years” (KJV). Hezekiah got healed because he humbled himself before God. We all need humility to receive what God has in store for us. Are you going to walk in humility?
Scripture teaches that we should humble ourselves and God would lift us up. Those who seek the kingdom of God basically humble themselves. This is how God really takes first place in their lives and all other things take second place. Hezekiah gave God first place and was blessed with divine healing in his body.
