Those who are in Christ are forever blessed. They are like the nation of Israel, chosen and blessed forever. A long time ago, a man by the name of Balaam was determined to curse Israel for personal gain despite being warned by God not to do it. Since Israel was blessed by God, Balaam could do nothing.
Now, part of what happened is recorded in Numbers 22:12 where the Bible says,“And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed”(KJV). Balaam went ahead with his intent to curse Israel, but failed. What does this tell us? This tells us that those who belong to God are blessed and can not be cursed unless they themselves willingly allow it by living in sin.
When you are in Christ, you are blessed. When you keep living by the word of God you will receive all the protection you need from any curse. However, when you commit sin, your protection is removed and you become vulnerable. This is just like it was with the nation of Israel. Other nations knew that if Israel committed immoral acts like fornication or worshipped idols, it would come under a curse and God’s protection would be removed.
Now, why would anyone want to curse that nation? Well, it is all because Israel was defeating every nation that stood on its way to the promised land. The nations that were threatened are the ones that wanted Israel to be cursed. These nations knew for sure that a curse was the only way to stop Israel from moving forward. This is what the enemy would like to do in our lives. He would want to stop us from getting the best of what God has in store for us.
A curse, in my opinion is like a guided missile and the only difference is that a curse occurs in the spirit and not in the natural world although the effects can manifest in the natural world. Do not let this “spirit guided missile” have a chance of ruining your life. Stay clear from any form of immorality because that is what the enemy has used for years to try to stop the people of God by making them come under a curse. Curses are rooted in sin.
What this man Balaam tried to do was to cast a stamblingblock before Israel. In Revelation 2:14 Jesus Christ says, “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication” (KJV). This was happening in church at Pergamos and Jesus was not happy about doctrinal issues in that church. The doctrine of Balaam has only one purpose and that is to try to stop the people of God by means of a curse. Whatever you do, do not let it stop you, abide in Christ. Live right and you will nullify any curse.
