The Mercy of God

We all need the mercy of God. The Bible tells us that we have all sinned and have come short of the glory of God. This means we all need the mercy of God. God shows his mercy to us by forgiving our sins.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and were evicted from the garden of Eden, things began to go downhill. Not long after that fall and eviction, Cain killed his brother Abel. This was the first murder in the history of mankind and today things have even gotten worse. The hands that were meant to protect were now being used for killing.

It is obvious that Cain deserved to be punished for murdering his brother. Yes, Cain deserved the death penalty, but God had mercy on him. In Genesis 4:12- 13 God says to Cain, “when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth. And Cain said unto Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear” (ASV). This was a curse, but God still had mercy on him. How did he show mercy to Cain? Well, he put a sign on Cain to prevent him from being killed.

God heard Cain’s cry. Deep down in his heart Cain must have known the principle that says that whatever a man sows that’s what he would reap. He also knew that God is the only one to talk to about complex issues of life as he gives a second chance. Cain, as sinful as he was, talked to God about his problem. He did not talk to his mother or father about his issue, but he talked to God. Are you talking to God about your issues and not just to friends? God is merciful, call on him and he will answer you.

Let the mercy of God touch you too.
