A Broken Wing – Part 2

Years ago, I met a preacher who turned out to be a very helpful friend. Earlier in his life and that is, before he met Christ, he committed crimes that have now caused limitations in his life. When I met him, he was already completely changed, but he could not be granted a visa to travel abroad because of the type of crimes he had committed earlier in his life.

The fact of the matter is that, although this friend of mine had completely turned away from every one of the sins from his past life, he had already sustained “a broken wing” in society. That does not mean he can not function. It only means he will probably continue to face limitations in his life for a long time. Just like the little bird that could not fly as high as the other two, this man can now not freely travel abroad for missions.

What about you, does your background also cause any limitations in your life? If you are in Christ, old things have now past away and all things have become new. However, we have to remember that a Christian who knowingly lives in sin is also like a bird that has had a broken wing. That wing is really never strong enough to reach full potential.

The destructive power of sin has ways of sabotaging the best God has for his people. That is the reason why as believers we have to stay free from entanglements in this world that slow us down. Well, God’s promise still stands. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (KJV).‬‬ God thinks well about you and when you are in good standing with him, there is no limit as to what you may be privileged to see and do in life.
