Children of God sometimes go through times when they feel like they are alone when in actual fact God is with them. The truth is that the Lord himself has promised not to leave or forsake us. We may feel alone, but God’s presence is always with us.
On the day when Jesus stood before Pilate, he surely must have looked like he was alone. The truth is that Jesus was not alone and he was not looking for a way out of his situation. Pilate might have assumed Jesus needed his help to freedom because that is usually what we expected in such situations. Well, when Pilate felt like he was being ignored when Jesus remained quiet, he reacted. In John 19:10 the Bible says, “Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee” (KJV). Pilate said, “…I have power…”.
You may have met people like Pilate in your life. They have power, but they forget their power has limits. They say, “look at me, I have power”. Affirm me and I will help you”. The fact of the matter is that as long as they are human, their power will definitely be limited. Only God has all the power. Look at Jesus’ response to Pilate. In John 19:11 the Bible says, “Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above…”(KJV). Jesus was not panicking because he knew exactly what was going on. He knew that what was happening could not have been happening unless God allowed it.
In your life as a child of God, nothing is happening by chance. Things in your life do not happen by accident. What the enemy has meant for evil will be turned around to your advantage. When David faced Goliath, he had stones and a sling, but God had already planned out his victory. Earlier that day when Goliath was preparing his sword, his hope was to make sure he completely destroyed his enemy. What Goliath hoped would happen never happened because his sword was instead designed to cut off his own head. Big swords are meant for giants. No wonder David used the sword Goliath prepared that very day on Goliath himself. This is the reason why in every temptation you face in Christ, there is a weapon embedded right in your circumstances uniquely designed to defeat your enemy.
When Jesus went to the cross, the devil had no idea that the cross could become a weapon that would completely destroy him. In Hebrews 2:14 we are told, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (KJV). Just because of what Christ did for you by dying on that cross, your testimony as a child of God is a weapon against the devil. Surely there is a weapon so powerful and it is embedded right in your life experiences. Use it!
