The second thing Zaccheaus did was to climb a sycamore tree. His desire was to see Jesus, although he ended up meeting him personally. In Zacchaeus’ mind the very thought of meeting Jesus was just beyond his grasp that is why he settled for the possibility of just seeing him. In his quest, things instead turned out differently.
It is exciting to see how God finally came through for him. This man, as respectable as he was, did not feel embarrassed running around and climbing a sycamore tree just to have the chance to see Jesus. No wonder the Lord went straight to where he was and called him by name. Surely, nothing could stop him from seeing Jesus.
The meeting at that tree was actually not prearranged, but somehow the Master knew Zaccheaus’ name. Jesus knows your name too and if you seek him with all of your heart he will meet you at your point of need. Jesus is never late. In his time, he does all things well.
You are special to Jesus and he knows your every struggle. As you seek him, you may face the possibility of losing friends, but you do not have to fear. When you find Christ you have found someone who will never leave or forsake you.
God’s intention is to be with us forever. He has promised not to leave or forsake those who come to him. What happened at that sycamore tree when Jesus called out to Zacchaeus? Luke 19:5 says, “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house” (ASV). On that day Jesus stayed at Zacchaeus’ house because he really intended to stay there.
The Lord’s intention has not changed. Jesus went to the cross because he intended to come into your life. Are you ready to let him come into your every life situation?
