Essentials of Prayer (Part 1)

When Jesus commanded the fig tree never to be eaten from, it did not take long before it withered away. That was faith in action and that day the disciples learnt that faith could really do the impossible.

Jesus believed that what he spoke out could come to pass. He did not doubt in his heart that is why the impossible happened. Now, can we also do the impossible acts like Jesus did? Yes we can.

In Mark 11:23 the Bible says, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith”(KJV‬‬). The impossible happens where there is faith.

What we say must not be contaminated by doubt and since prayer itself involves saying things we hope would come to pass, we should believe that what we say in prayer will definitely come to pass. The word “Amen” at the end of our prayer means we want things to happen the way we have expressed our desires by words in prayer.

The Lord Jesus Christ taught the disciples that their desires would get fulfilled through prayer when faith is involved. In Mark 11:24 Jesus says, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (KJV‬‬). This is the prayer of faith and not just prayer as a tradition. Always believe that you will receive what you ask for in prayer. Faith is really an essential part of prayers in order for us to have what we desire of God.

Do you have faith in your prayers?
